A ranked matchup will take place Saturday night as No. 7 USC travels to take on No. 4 UConn in women’s basketball action.

One of the biggest non-conference games of the season will take place on Saturday night at the XL Center as the No. 4 UConn Huskies host the No. 7 USC Trojans. The Trojans come into Saturday night’s game with an overall record of 10-1 and a Big Ten record of 1-0 so far. The team is on a six-game win streak with the most recent being a massive 88-30 win over Elon on Sunday afternoon. JuJu Watkins delivered a commanding performance against Elon, scoring a game-high 26 points while three other Trojans ended the game in double figures, as well. Rayah Marshall dominated on the boards, pulling down 14 rebounds to go along with the five points she added to the scoreboard. While the Trojans shot well from the field at 46 percent, they only went 4-for-21 from beyond the arc which is something the team will need to work on as it gets into the thick of Big Ten after the holiday break.

The Huskies also come into Saturday’s game with an overall record of 10-1 and a Big East record of 1-0. The team’s lone loss of the season came against No. 8 Notre Dame last week in a 79-68 defeat in South Bend, but the Huskies bounced back to win the next two including a big 101-68 victory over Iowa State on Tuesday in the Basketball Hall of Fame Women’s Showcase.

UConn set a new program record against the Cyclones, making 20 three-pointers in the win as three Huskies finished in double figures. Sarah Strong finished the game with a team-high 29 points, but Paige Bueckers and Ashlynn Shade finished right behind her with 27 points each. Bueckers is currently averaging 20.6 points per game and 4.6 rebounds per game while Strong leads the team in rebounds with 8.3 per game while also averaging 17.3 points per game. If the Trojans can shut down those two players on Saturday night, they have a real shot and pulling off the win on the road.

USC and UConn have only met once in their history which was last season in the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament. The Huskies earned a spot in the Final Four with an 80-73 victory to eliminate the Trojans from national title contention.
