This will be the first matchup ever between the two teams. Both programs historically have been regulars in the tournament but neither has ever made it beyond the regional stage. Both of these teams play a similar style, and are reliant on being able to shoot three pointers. Utah ranked third in the Big 12 shooting the three at a 37.1 percent success rate, while Indiana was the third-best three-point shooting team in the Big Ten at 36.7 percent.
Utah finished the season winning nine of its last 11 games. However, the Utes lost their first game in the Big 12 tournament, falling 75-64.
Indiana won its first tournament game in the Big Ten, beating Oregon 78-62. The Hoosiers then lost to USC – who earned a one seed in the national tournament – 84-79 in the next round.
The winner of this game will likely have a different top seed waiting in the Round of 32. In the other half of this bracket South Carolina takes on a 16-seed in Tennessee Tech.
