Top-seed Grand Canyon takes on UT Arlington in the women’s college basketball WAC Tournament Championship.

It was just 12 seasons ago when Grand Canyon (31-2) entered the Western Athletic Conference in women’s college basketball. In that time the Antelopes have struggled to break through. Until this season. The Antelopes won the regular season in the WAC and are back in the championship game as the favorites against UT Arlington (17-12). This is the third appearance for the Antelopes in the conference championship where they lost in 2021 to California Baptist and again in 2022 where they lost to Stephen F. Austin. Trinity San Antonio leads a veteran roster for the Antelopes that have paid their dues and look ready to break through for the first time in program history as WAC Tournament Champions.

If the Antelopes do not win their first conference championship there will still be a first time WAC Tournament Champion crowned. The Mavericks have just been in the conference for three seasons, but have yet to play for or win a conference championship.

Both regular season games went to the Antelopes in very similar fashion. They won both games by exactly 13 points using a big second half run to pull away in a closely contested rivalry game.

The veteran group of San Antonio, Laura Erikstrup, Alyssa Durazo-Frescas and Tiarra Brown combined for all 82 of the teams points in the first win against the Mavericks and then 64 of the 72 points in the second.
