Wheeling and Glenville State will battle it out on Thursday afternoon for a chance to advance in the Mountain East Tournament.

On Thursday afternoon, sixth-seeded Glenville State will take on third-seeded Wheeling in the quarterfinal round of the Mountain East Tournament. The Pioneers finished the regular season with an overall record of 17-11 and a conference record of 11-9. The team will look to bounce back from a 99-75 loss to Concord on Saturday and pull off the upset against Wheeling to advance in tournament play. Ashlyn Riley led the Pioneers’ offense with 18 points while Stevi Yancy and Tynasia Bunting joined her in double figures with 13 and 10 points, respectively. Nwando Okigbo dominated on the boards against Concord, pulling down 14 rebounds to go along with her nine points, narrowly missing a double-double in the loss.

The Cardinals bring a four-game win streak into tournament play and will look to carry that momentum into Thursday’s quarterfinal matchup. On Saturday, the team closed out regular season play with a 74-55 win over West Liberty, improving to 17-11 overall and 13-7 in conference play.

Rachel Wilson led the team offensively by scoring 20 points while Bryana Henderson finished closely behind with a 17-point performance. Kristel Rattasepp and Kaylee Marvin rounded out the double digit scorers with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Marvin narrowly missed a double-double by leading on the boards with nine rebounds.

Wheeling and Glenville State have met twice already this season and the teams split the results with the Pioneers winning the first 77-65 and the Cardinals winning the second 75-67. Tune in Thursday to see which of these two teams can earn a trip to the semifinals.
