San Diego State looks for a sweep against Nevada this season and its third win in a row on Saturday.

San Diego State looks to improve on its top positioning in the Mountain West Conference standings when it travels to take on Nevada on Saturday afternoon. The Aztecs are going for their third win in a row and have been tremendous on the road. San Diego State has a 7-1 away record, while the Aztecs are 13-1 in Mountain West play with a 19-4 overall record. SDSU sits atop the standings by two games, while UNLV is in second with a 16-8 overall record and an MWC 11-3 record. Nevada is on the other end of the spectrum, ranked 10th in the conference with a 4-10 Mountain West record and an 8-16 overall mark. The Wolf Pack is fortunate to be at home, where they are 7-4, while they are just 1-9 on the road. Nevada will have a little breathing room coming into this matchup, as the Wolf Pack ended a seven-game losing streak by beating Air Force in its last matchup. Still, San Diego State is the best team in the conference, and this will be an uphill battle to pull off an upset at home for Nevada. These two first faced off in San Diego on Jan. 31, where the Aztecs won 67-54. SDSU extended its winning streak to 13 games at the time, and the Aztecs led wire to wire. San Diego State used a 20-5 run in the second half to cement Nevada’s fate, while Naomi Panganiba led the Aztecs with 16 points.

The Aztecs are coming off a close 64-61 victory over Colorado State on Wednesday at home. It’s difficult to picture this game being any more back-and-forth, with 13 lead changes and nine ties. For much of the game, neither team led by more than four points. That changed when the Aztecs went up six with less than three minutes remaining. It helped that SDSU’s defense was clutch in the fourth quarter, holding the Rams to just 3-for-13 shooting. The Aztecs shot at 50 percent in that stretch with Kaelyn Hamilton leading the charge with a career-high 15 points. Naomi Panganiban and Nala Williams each scored 14 points for the Aztecs. SDSU is still on a great trajectory to defend its 2025 Mountain West Tournament championship.

Nevada is coming off a much-needed win on Wednesday at home, beating Air Force forcefully 76-59 to end its losing streak. It was the highest-scoring game of the season for the Wolf Pack. Nevada opened the game on an 8-0 run, and it nearly went five minutes without giving up a basket to Air Force. Izzy Sullivan led the club with 17 points, while Skylar Durley added another 11 points. The Wolf Pack will need to replicate that quick start to have any shot of pulling off this upset against their Mountain West foe.
