Marquette is currently sitting in fourth place in the Big East standings with a conference record of 10-6 and an overall record of 16-9. UConn has been dominant this season and are not only undefeated in conference play at 15-0, but overall at 26-0. The closest any team has come to the defending national champs was Michigan back in early December when the Huskies won 72-69.

Marquette’s most recent game was played against Seton Hall and resulted in a 70-58 loss at home. After leading by four at halftime, Seton Hall out-rebounded the Golden Eagles 29-13 in the second half to control possession and force two six-minute scoring droughts for Marquette. Skylar Forbes came off the bench to lead the team in scoring, finishing the game with 17 points as the only Golden Eagle in double figures. The team, as whole, only shot 39 percent from the field and struggled from long range at 20.8 percent. Only one three-pointer was sunk in the second half, further allowing the Pirates to outscore the Golden Eagles.

The Huskies’ last time out took place at home on Wednesday against visiting Creighton, and UConn won handily in a 94-44 victory. The Bluejays kept the game close in the first quarter, trailing 19-14, but that was the closest things would be for them. UConn pulled away in the second quarter and never looked back. Allie Ziebell came off the bench to lead the Huskies in scoring, finishing the game with 20 points while Azzi Fudd was right behind her with a 19-point performance. Fudd also hit three three-pointers to become the 10th Husky to hit 250 career three’s.

Dating back to 2006, UConn and Marquette have met a total of 24 times and the Huskies hold a commanding 23-1 lead in the series. The teams have already met once this season and the game resulted in an 89-53 win for the Huskies at home.
