A top 20 matchup will take place on Friday as Georgia hosts Alabama in and SEC dual meet in women’s gymnastics action.

SEC gymnastics competition will continue on Friday evening as the No. 14 Alabama Crimson Tide travels to Athens to take on the No. 12 Georgia Bulldogs at Stegeman Coliseum. The Crimson Tide is currently in last place in the SEC standings and are still in search of a win in conference competition. The team is 0-2-0 in the SEC and 1-2 overall. The team has dropped its last two meets with the most recent being a 197.550-196.300 loss to top-ranked Oklahoma on Friday. Junior Gabby Gladieux picked up her third event title of the season on the floor exercise with a 9.950, but it wasn’t enough to make up the lead that the Sooners had gained in the first three events.

The Bulldogs are just above the Crimson Tide in the standings, but simply because of the fact that they have competed in one less meet so far. The team is 0-1 in conference meets and 2-3 overall. Last week, Georgia traveled to Gainesville to take on No. 3 Florida and ended up falling in a 198.125-196.825 defeat. Freshman Brooke Gleichowski had a career-night, finishing in a tie for the top spot on the balance beam with a career-best 9.950. The score is the highest recorded on the apparatus by any Bulldog this season. Fellow Georgia newcomer Nyla Aquino also ended the night with a career-high 9.925 on vault which gave her a podium finish in second place. While the team ended up dropping the meet, the performances gave much to look forward to for the remainder of the season.

When Georgia and Alabama met last season during SEC competition, the Crimson Tide earned a 198.075-196-975 win in front of a home crowd in Tuscaloosa.
