Harvard and Boston University open the 46th Women’s Beanpot tournament on Tuesday at Northeastern University.

The 46th Women’s Beanpot tournament gets under way on Tuesday evening at Matthews Arena in Boston when Harvard (2-12-2) takes on No. 13 Boston University (13-6-1) in a semifinal matchup. The other semifinal is set for later Tuesday night when defending champion Northeastern hosts No. 12 Boston College, with the consolation and championship games set for Jan. 21 at TD Garden in Boston. The Crimson are winless in their last 12 games dating back to Nov. 1, while the Terriers come off a weekend split at Vermont.

Boston University won the opener of its weekend Hockey East series at Vermont on Friday before dropping Saturday’s finale. Sydney Healey leads the Terriers with eight goals, while Lola Reid has seven tallies and shares the team-high of 13 points with Christina Vote. In net, Callie Shanahan is 11-4-1 in 17 appearances and 16 starts with a 1.71 goals-against average and .925 save percentage.

Harvard dropped a 3-2 non-conference decision in overtime on Friday to visiting Maine, taking a 1-0 lead on Zoe Boosamra’s first period goal and tying things up when Eva Dorr lit the lamp 1:35 into the third period. Ella Lucia, Antonina Dinges and Gwyn Lapp share the team lead with three goals, while Kaley MacDonald has a team-best nine points. Ainsley Tuffy has started eight games and appeared in 10 with a 2.26 GAA and .930 save percentage that belie an 0-6-2 record.

In last year’s Women’s Beanpot, Boston University fell 2-1 in overtime to Northeastern in the championship game, while Harvard won the shootout in the consolation game with Boston College after the game finished in a 2-2 tie.
