Northeastern can claim its 7th Hockey East tournament title in 8 years when it faces Boston University on Saturday.

Northeastern (22-13-1), the No. 5 seed in the Hockey East tournament, can win its seventh HE tourney title in eight years on Saturday afternoon when it takes on second-seeded and 13th-ranked Boston University (23-11-2) in the championship game at Toscano Family Ice Forum in Storrs, Connecticut. For the Huskies, it is their ninth consecutive appearance in the championship game and they won six consecutive titles from 2018-23 before losing in the final to UConn last season. The Terriers are in the title game for the first time since 2016 and seeking their first championship since 2015. The winner earns Hockey East’s automatic NCAA tournament bid.

Northeastern scored three third-period goals on Wednesday to knock off top-seeded UConn 3-1 in their semifinal at Storrs. Skylar Irving tied the game at 6:22 of the third and put the Huskies on top with her second of the game at 12:25. Lily Brazis tallied the insurance marker at 17:09 and Lisa Jönsson made 35 saves. Irving leads the team with 17 goals and 33 points and Jönsson is 17-8-0 in 25 games with a 1.56 goals-against average and .939 save percentage.

Lindsay Bochna lit the lamp 7:12 into the second overtime to lift Boston University past visiting No. 3 seed Boston College on Wednesday night. Riley Walsh tied the game at the 5:10 mark of the third period and Christina Vote had two assists. Sydney Healey leads the squad with 14 goals and 22 points while Callie Shanahan, who made 36 saves in the semifinal victory, is 17-8-2 with a 1.80 GAA and .924 save percentage.

The teams have split four meetings this season, with Northeastern winning 4-0 at home on Oct. 11 and taking another 4-0 victory at TD Garden in the Beanpot championship game on Jan. 21. BU blanked the Huskies 4-0 at home on Oct. 12 and took a 3-2 overtime win at Northeastern on Feb. 4. The Huskies missed last season’s NCAA tournament after three consecutive Frozen Four appearances while the Terriers haven’t been to the NCAAs since 2015.
