The Minnesota State Mavericks battle the Ohio State Buckeyes in women’s college hockey on Saturday afternoon. The Mavericks lost their fifth straight game on Friday night when they fell to the Buckeyes 5-2. The Mavericks were swept by Wisconsin and Minnesota the last two weekends and are looking to avoid the same fate on Saturday afternoon. The first time these two teams met this season the Buckeyes won 2-1 in overtime in the first game, but the Mavericks won the second game 4-1. The Mavericks now sit at 10-14-1 on the seaon and 4-14-1 in conference play. Madison Mashuga is leading the team with 15 assists and 23 points. Jamie Nelson and JuliAnna Gazdik are the team’s leader in goals with 15.

The Buckeyes come into Saturday afternoon on a six-game winning streak and it has pushed their record to 19-5-3 on the season and 13-5-3 in conference play.

The Buckeyes are coming off two straight sweeps in conference play as they knocked off Bemidji State two weeks ago at home and then beat Minnesota Duluth at home last weekend.

They then knocked off Mercyhurst 5-1 on Tuesday and stayed hot against the Mavericks on Friday night.

Hannah Bilka is leading the team with 48 points, Jennifer Gardiner and Kiara Zanon are leading the team with 27 assists. Joy Dunne is the team’s top goal scorer with 24.
