10th-ranked UConn looks to salvage a weekend home-and-home split when they face Northeastern on Saturday

No. 10 UConn (6-5-0) comes off its first Hockey East loss as it heads to Boston to take on Northeastern (6-5-1) on Saturday afternoon at Matthews Arena. Northeastern’s Huskies won the opener of the weekend home-and-home by beating UConn’s Huskies on Friday night. UConn is coming off its first NCAA tournament appearance last season after winning the Hockey East regular-season and tournament titles. Northeastern missed the NCAAs last season after five consecutive tourney bids, including three consecutive Frozen Fours from 2021-23. Chris McKenzie has guided UConn to a 183-170-48 mark and is in his 12th season. Northeastern’s Dave Flint is in his 17th season with a record of 352-156-46.

Northeastern improved to 4-3-1 and tied UConn with 14 points in Hockey East play with a 1-0 victory at Storrs, Connecticut, on Friday night. Lily Shannon got the game’s only goal 4:32 into the third period and Lisa Jönsson made 24 saves to earn the shutout in net.

UConn was outshot in the game 34-24, with Claire Murdoch and Jada Habisch each putting four shots on goal. It falls to 5-1-0 in conference play with the loss and won 20 of 43 faceoffs on the night.

Northeastern leads the all-time series 46-21-13 but UConn is 3-1-1 in the last five meetings. Murdoch leads UConn with five goals and eight points. Tia Chan got the start in goal Friday and is 4-2-0 in six starts with a .940 save percentage and 1.67 goals-against average. Skylar Irving paces Northeastern with five goals and shares the scoring lead of 12 points with Éloïse Caron. Paige Taborski is 4-4-1 in nine starts in goal with a .926 save percentage and 1.79 GAA.
