Hockey East play continues for Vermont and New Hampshire on Saturday afternoon as the teams look to move out of last place.

On Saturday afternoon, Vermont and New Hampshire will meet for the second time in as many days at Whittemore Center at Key Auto Group Complex in New Hampshire for a Hockey East matchup. The teams played each other last night, as well, and the game was tightly contested, but ultimately went in Vermont’s favor with a 4-3 victory. With the win, the Catamounts are now 2-5-0 overall and 1-2-0 in Hockey East play, putting them just out of last place above New Hampshire. The Wildcats fall to 3-3-1 overall and 0-3-0 in Hockey East play with last night’s loss.

New Hampshire opened the scoring in last night’s game with a goal from Chavonne Truter just 34 seconds into the first period. Five minutes later, Ashley Kokavec put in the equalizer before Evelyne Blais-Savoie made it a 2-1 game for Vermont. Shortly before the end of the first, Andi Calderone tied things back up for the Wildcats and the teams went to the locker room all square.

The scoring in the second period started quick, yet again, but this time had New Hampshire on the receiving end. Rose-Marie Brochu received the puck from Lara Beecher and buried it in the net to make it a 3-2 game in the Catamounts’ favor. Hannah Rodgers tied things up for the third time in the game with a goal just two minutes later. The quick goals continued as Grace Nelles netted what ended up being the game winner just two and a half minutes after Nelles’ goal. Despite strong offensive play, New Hampshire was unable to tie things up again and the Catamounts were able to skate away with their first Hockey East win.

With the win last night, Vermont improves to 21-15-8 in the all-time series with New Hampshire. After breaking New Hampshire’s two-game win streak, the Catamounts will look to extend their streak to two wins on Saturday.
