Top-seed North Carolina is challenged by Clemson in the first semifinal of the 2025 ACC Tournament in women’s lacrosse.
The first semifinal in the ACC Tournament in women’s college lacrosse is between undefeated, top-seed North Carolina (16-0) and five-seed Clemson (13-5). Both teams earned their way to the semifinals with lopsided wins in the quarterfinals. The Tar Heels head into this matchup winners of 16 straight wins as the only undefeated team in the country. They defeated eight-seed Virginia Tech 19-9 for the Tar Heels 12th win by double-figures this season. For the Tigers, they took care of business against fourth-seeded Duke 14-6 to advance. The winner here advances on to play the winner of the second semifinal between second-seed Boston College and third-seed Stanford.

In the regular season the teams played once with the Tar Heels rolled to an 18-5 win at home. That was one of the team’s 12 wins by double-figures as well as 12 where the Tar Heels scored at least 15 points.
Chloe Humphrey paced the offense with three goals in the first period helping the Tar Heels jump out to a 6-0 lead. She led the offense with six total goals in the win. Everytime the Tigers got points on the board, the Tar Heels answered right back with at least two of their own to halt any momentum.
The Tar Heels are looking to win the ACC Tournament for the first time since 2022. They won six straight conference championships between 2016-2022 and two of the program’s three National Championships during that stretch.
