Top-seed UNC heads into the NCAA Tournament semifinals against four-seed Florida as the only undefeated team in the country in women’s college lacrosse on Friday.

The first semifinal of the 2025 NCAA Tournament in women’s college lacrosse is layered with history. For top-seed UNC (20-0) it has the opportunity to play for its fourth National Championship. The Tar Heels are the only undefeated team in the country this season and look to repeat what they last did in 2022 as an undefeated National Champion in women’s college lacrosse. They take on four-seed Florida (20-2), who is playing in the program’s third semifinal. With an upset in the semifinals the Gators would find themselves in the national championship match for the first time in program history. The winner takes on either two-seed Boston College or three-seed Northwestern for the title.

The path to the semifinals for the Gators saw them defeat Mercer (18-6), Stanford (13-12, OT) and Duke (11-9). For the Tar Heels so far in the tournament they have shown why they are the top-seed with wins over Clemson (18-9) and Princeton (19-10).

This Gators team is the best in program history and learned from last season where they lost in the semifinals to the No. 1 team in the country. Heading into this match the Gators have won 17 straight, including the Big 12 Tournament Championship.

Before starting the current 17-match win streak, the Gators faced-off with the Tar Heels in a very early season battle. The Tar Heels came out with a 14-9 win in that match. That loss was another learning opportunity for this Gators team.
