The last two championships in women’s college lacrosse have come down to Boston College and Northwestern. It is fitting that those teams are facing off again to determine one half of the 2025 NCAA Tournament. The defending champion Golden Eagles are back in the semifinals to take on last season’s runner-up Wildcats. These teams have played in back-to-back National Championship matches, splitting the first two. This is a rubber match of sorts, but a round earlier. Whichever of the two teams advance with a win in this match will take on either top-seed North Carolina or fourth-seed Florida in the National Championship match.

Heading into the semifinals, the Golden Eagles picked up wins over Stony Brook (10-7) and seven-seed Yale (18-11). The Wildcats faced off with Michigan (15-7) and Penn (17-12) to earn a spot in the semifinals.

For the Golden Eagles, an unprecedented streak is on the line in this semifinal match. They have played in the National Championship match in seven straight seasons. During this run, the Golden Eagles have won two championships in 2021 and 2024. Only two teams have made the National Championship match eight seasons in a row – Maryland (1994-2001) and the Wildcats.

The Wildcats were the face of women’s college lacrosse between 2005-2012 playing in eight straight finals and winning seven National Championships. Between 2013 and 2022 the Wildcats were absent from the championship, going a full decade between appearances. They are back and looking to play in their 10th National Championship match.
