Stanford takes a trip across the country on Friday for an ACC matchup with Syracuse in women’s college lacrosse.

The No. 7 Stanford Cardinal will take a trip to the east coast for the weekend to play a pair of ranked opponents beginning with a game against the No. 11 Syracuse Orange on Friday night at the JMA Wireless Dome. Syracuse is currently on a three-game losing streak with the most recent being a tough 9-8 loss to No. 14 Clemson last weekend. The Orange fell were trailing 3-2 at the end of the first quarter and were never able to gain a lead, eventually losing 9-8. Caroline Trinkaus led the scoring efforts with three goals on six shots. On the season, Emma Ward leads the Orange with 30 points coming from 16 goals and 14 assists.

The Cardinal are new to the ACC this year and have gotten off to a strong start this season. The Cardinal come into the weekend with an undefeated record of 6-0 overall and 2-0 in ACC play. The team’s most recent win came in the form of a 14-13 victory over Villanova last weekend. In a back-and-forth match, Stanford took advantage of their defense and turned it into offensive opportunities allowing them to regain the lead after falling behind. Ava Arceri led the offense, scoring four goals and adding one assist to the stat sheet while Aliya Polisky added three goals to propel the Cardinal to victory. 

Syracuse and Stanford have met a total of three times in their history with the most recent meeting taking place in 2022. The game went in favor of the Orange with a 12-9 win to improve to 2-1 in the all-time series.
