On Saturday afternoon, Brown will look to hand Columbia its first conference loss of the season in front of a home crowd at Stevenson-Pincince Field following the men’s game against Harvard. The Bears are currently 5-3-4 overall with a 2-1-1 record in Ivy League play for a spot in a two-way tie for third place with Yale. On Sunday, the team traveled to Philadelphia to play Penn and the game ended in a scoreless draw. The teams were nearly even statistically, with Penn just edging out Brown in shooting 6-5, however, the Bears were able to put three shots on frame as opposed to the Quakers’ two. Bella Schopp made two saves in net for the Bears to earn her fourth shutout of the season.

The Lions have now won five straight games and remain perfect in Ivy League play, bringing their overall record to 6-3-3 and their conference record to 4-0. Last weekend, Columbia hosted Dartmouth, earning a narrow 1-0 victory in front of 500 fans. The game was scoreless until the 88th minute of play when a penalty in the box resulted in a penalty kick attempt for the Lions. Sophia Cavaliere stepped up to the spot and buried the ball to give her team a lead with just two minutes left to play. Lauren Rodriguez was not challenged often in net for Columbia, but when she was, she kept it clear, making two saves on the day to earn her sixth clean sheet. The team played well as a whole, but the offense definitely produced, finishing the game with a total of 12 shots, five of which ended up on frame.

The last time these two teams met was during last year’s Ivy League tournament. Following a perfect season in conference play, Brown fell to Columbia in a 2-1 double overtime decision. Despite the loss, the Bears earned an NCAA bid, beating Quinnipiac in the first round, but losing to No. 18 Mississippi State, ending their season. Columbia also made it to the second round of the tournament, pulling off a big upset over Rutgers before losing to Clemson in a 2-1 defeat.
