Louisville will look to pull off the upset against No. 6 Stanford at home on Thursday night in women’s soccer action.
On Thursday night, No. 6 Stanford will travel to Kentucky to take on Louisville in an ACC matchup at Dr. Mark & Cindy Lynn Stadium. The Cardinals have struggled in conference play so far and bring an overall record of 6-5-3 and a conference record of 1-4-1 into Thursday night’s contest. While the team has struggled against ACC opponents, the Cards showed some real talent their last time out, playing No. 13 Notre Dame to a scoreless draw at home. While the Fighting Irish absolutely dominated the game, outshooting Louisville 21-5 with 10 shots on frame, strong defense and impressive goalkeeping from Erynn Floyd allowed the team to shut out Notre Dame, marking the first time the Fighting Irish have not scored in a game this season. Floyd finished with a career-high 10 saves in the match.

The Cardinal has been on the opposite end of the spectrum this season with an overall record of 12-2-1 and a conference record of 4-2-1 for a spot in fourth place in the ACC standings. After dropping a tough 4-1 game to No. 1 Duke a week ago, Stanford bounced back to beat No. 2 UNC on Sunday. The game was scoreless until the 82nd minute when Shae Harvey found the back of the net with a lunging, left-footed shot off of a ball in from freshman Eleanor Klinger. Senior goalkeeper Haley Craig made three saves in the competitive match to earn her ninth shutout of the year. Stanford’s goal is only the third game in which UNC had conceded a goal this season.
Thursday night’s match will be the first meeting between Louisville and Stanford as the Cardinal just joined the ACC this year after the folding of the Pac-12 at the conclusion of the 2023-2024 school year.
