ACC play continues Thursday for Miami as the team hosts Virginia Tech in women’s college soccer.
On Thursday night, Virginia Tech will take on Miami at Cobb Stadium as the team looks to improve its ACC record in women’s college soccer. The Hurricanes are currently 3-5-2 overall and 0-3-1 in conference play thus far. The team hopes to snap its two-game losing streak after dropping its most recent match to Cal in a 3-2 battle on the road. The Golden Bears got on the board in the 21st minute of play to take a 1-0 lead, but Giovana Canali tied things up just five minutes later. Just before half, Cal struck again to take a 2-1 lead into the locker room. With 22 minutes remaining in the game, Canali struck again, tying the game for the second time. The tie was broken once again in the 77th minute as Cal’s Malia McMahon scored the game winner with an assist by Julia Leontini. While the team suffered a loss, the ‘Canes were able to shut down the nation’s leading scorer, Karlie Lema, holding her to just two shots in the contest.

The Hokies are off to a strong start this season and are currently 8-3-1 overall with an ACC record of 3-1. The team’s lone conference loss came against a strong Boston College squad in a 3-1 loss, but Virginia Tech bounced back to beat Louisville on Thursday in a big 5-1 victory at home. Taylor Price saw her first career hat trick to propel the Hokies past the Cardinals, while Anna Weir and Natalie Mitchell also found the back of the net in the win. Mikki Easter and Lauren Hargrove shared responsibilities in net, but neither were forced to make any saves, as the Virginia Tech defense held Louisville to just five shots with only one being on frame, resulting in the Cards’ lone goal.
When Miami and Virginia Tech met last year during conference play, the Hokies earned a 3-0 victory at home.
