Syracuse will look to break a six game losing streak on Sunday when the Orange take on Pitt in women’s soccer action.

On Sunday afternoon, Syracuse will take a trip to Pittsburgh to play ninth place Pitt at Ambrose Urbanic Field in an ACC matchup. The Orange are currently in last place in the ACC standings with a conference record of 0-6 and an overall record of 6-7-1. Last weekend, the team hosted No. 17 Notre Dame, falling 3-0 in front of 365 fans. The Orange were able to hold off the Fighting Irish until the 29th minute when Lily Joseph opened the scoring for Notre Dame. Joseph struck again just a minute and a half later to make it a 2-0 game. Just after halftime, the final goal was scored despite several opportunities from the Syracuse offense to get back in the game. Shea Vanderbosch made a season-high 12 saves after seeing 38 shots. She single handedly kept the game from getting out of control for the Orange.

The Panthers have played well this season and will look to continue with another win on Sunday. The team brings an overall record of 8-3-2 into its contest against Syracuse and a conference record of 2-2-1 for a spot in ninth place in the league standings.

Pitt has now had ten days off since its last contest which was played against Clemson at home on October 3rd. The team was able to play to a 4-1 victory that saw four different Panthers finding the back of the net. Keera Melenhorst netted her fifth goal of the season to open the scoring in the 10th minute of play and Deborah Abiodun scored just seven minutes later to make it a 2-0 game. After the break, Samiah Phiri scored her eighth goal of the year with an assist from Melenhorst. With eight minutes left to play, Clemson got on the board, but it was too little, too late. Just to be safe, Sarah Schupansky added one more goal to Pitt’s tally and the team secured another three points. Ellie Breech saw 11 shots on the day in net.

When these two teams met during the 2023 season, Pitt won handily in a 6-0 victory. Syracuse still holds the edge in the all-time series record which standings at 12-7-5.
