The USC Trojans hit the road to take on the Purdue Boilermakers in women’s college soccer on Thursday.
Heading into Thursday’s Big Ten women’s college soccer match, both No. 25 USC (5-1-1) and Purdue (5-2-1) are having very similar seasons. Both teams are coming off a win, bouncing back after losing tough, hard-fought matches to Top 25 opponents that tested both the Trojans and Boilermakers. Both teams bounced back from those losses, learning more about themselves in the process. The Trojans have one of the best team defenses in the country and will lean on that to avoid the upset to a very talented Boilermakers team. Last season the teams played with a very one-sided win for the Trojans on their home field.

In that match last season the Trojans won 4-0, scoring three of the four goals in the second half. Hannah Griffin got the scoring started and then assisted on the teams second goal to Kayla Colbert, followed by goals from Helena Sampaio and Katie Roditis to run away with the win.
Colbert and Sampaio are both back for their senior seasons, with Griffin playing in her graduate season. The veteran trio have combined to score four of the team’s 12 goals with Sampaio also assisting on two team goals. This season the Trojans lean on their team defense and timely offense to be one of the top teams in the country.
For the Boilermakers, they will look to the trio of senior Gracie Dunaway, freshman Chiara Singarella and senior Abigail Roy who have scored three goals each, nine of the team’s 13 goals, while accounting for three of the teams nine assists this season.
