Wake Forest and Stanford will square off in the first semifinal of the NCAA Tournament on Friday in women’s soccer action.
For the first time in women’s NCAA soccer history, four teams from the same conference will take part in the College Cup as Wake Forest, Duke, North Carolina and newcomer Stanford will all represent the ACC as they battle for a national championship. The first semifinal game will take place on Friday at 5:00 p.m. ET as third-seeded Stanford takes on second-seeded Wake Forest. The Cardinal’s last time winning a national title took place in 2019 after they beat North Carolina in penalties following a scoreless game. At the time, Stanford was a member of the Pac-12, but this year, the team made the move to the ACC. On Friday, Stanford played Notre Dame, winning 2-0 to advance to the College Cup. Shae Harvey scored the first goal in the 24th minute and Andrea Kitihata added an insurance goal just after half time. Haley Craig made four saves in net to earn her 12th shutout of the season.

Wake Forest is making its first appearance in the College Cup since 2011 after beating top-seeded USC in penalties on Friday to advance in the tournament. Caiya Hanks opened the scoring for the Demon Deacons in the 21st minute to give them a 1-0 lead which stood until halftime. Just after the break, the Trojans scored their first goal and followed with a second 12 minutes later to make it a 2-1 game. With 11 minutes remaining in regulation, Alex Wood evened the score and the game went to overtime. With neither team able to break the tie, Wake Forest and USC went to penalties, winning 4-3 with Kristin Johnson converting the final penalty kick.
When Stanford and Wake Forest met during regular season play, the Demon Deacons earned a 1-0 victory over the then-No. 1 Cardinal. Tune in Friday to see if Wake Forest can do it again and earn their first-ever NCAA Final berth.
