No. 18 Kansas (9-6) lost its home opener on Friday night to start Big 12 Conference play and looks to salvage a weekend split on Sunday afternoon when it hosts Arizona (7-4) at Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena in Lawrence, Kansas. The Jayhawks already have more losses than they did all of last season, when they finished 25-5 with a second-round loss to Florida in the NCAA tournament. The Wildcats snapped a four-match losing streak on Friday to open Big 12 play after winning the NIVC championship in 2024 to finish at 24-9.

Kansas fell in five sets Friday night to No. 8 Arizona State after holding a 2-1 lead, falling 30-28, 21-25, 25-22, 20-25, 11-15. Jovana Zelenovic keyed the attack with 18 kills while Grace Nelson added 12 kills and two aces. Aurora Papac logged eight blocks and Ryan White finished with 20 digs in the loss, which was the Jayhawks’ second in a row.

Arizona needed only four sets to win at Kansas State Friday night 25-19, 19-25, 25-14, 27-25. Jordan Wilson logged 21 kills while Adrianna Bridges booked five aces and five blocks. Brenna Ginder made 16 digs and served a pair of aces, with Ana Heath finishing the night with 11 kills and four blocks. The Wildcats opened the season 6-0 before hitting the skids to close out non-conference play.

The Wildcats are 2-1 all-time against Kansas, winning last season at home 3-2 on Nov. 8, and have won the last two meetings.
