The Hawkeyes have broken even this season with an overall record of 9-9 and a conference record of 3-3 to sit comfortably in fourth place in the Big Ten standings. The team’s most recent match was played at home on Saturday against No. 10 Purdue and although the Hawkeyes earned a 25-19 win in the second set, they ultimately fell in four sets. Freshman Malu Garcia set a career-high in kills with 20 to lead Iowa offensively, while hitting at a .366 clip. Senior Gracie Gibson was also in double figures with 10 kills while senior Joy Galles paced the defense with 12 digs on the night. Despite some really strong performances, the Boilermakers proved to be too much for Iowa to handle.

Iowa and Northwestern met twice last year during regular season play and the Wildcats earned straight set wins in both games. This year, however, the scales are tipped in Iowa’s favor with Northwestern’s less than average performance so far this season.
