No. 14 Minnesota looks to make it two wins in a row as the team hosts Maryland on Saturday night in Big Ten volleyball action.

On Saturday night, Marylan will travel to Minneapolis to take on No. 14 Minnesota in a Big Ten matchup at Maturi Pavilion. The Terps have struggled this season in conference play and have only won one Big Ten match so far for an overall record of 10-6 and a conference record of 1-4. The team has had a tough schedule recently, playing three ranked opponents in four matches. Last weekend, Maryland played No. 3 Penn State, falling in four sets before picking up a win against Rutgers in straight sets. Last night, the Terps played No. 9 Wisconsin on the road, falling in a quick straight set defeat by scores of 25-15, 25-11 and 25-15. Samantha Schnitta led the offensive efforts for Maryland with nine kills, receiving help from Sydney Dowler who served up 23 assists. Lilly Gunter was pummeled defensively and finished the game with six digs while Schnitta and Ally Williams each added five digs to the stat sheet.

The Gophers have been a mainstay in the rankings this season and have made it as high as No. 12. Currently at No. 14, the team took on Indiana last night to improve to 4-2 in Big Ten play and 11-5 overall. Minnesota made quick work of the Hoosiers, winning in straight sets (25-18, 25-19, 25-19). Lydia Grote led offensively with 13 kills with support from Melani Shaffmaster who finished the match with 35 assists at setter. Zeynep Palabiyik and Shaffmaster shared defensive responsibilities, both adding 10 digs to the stat sheet.

The last time Minnesota and Maryland met was during last year’s regular season and the Terps pulled off a massive upset, their only win against Minnesota in program history, with a come-from-behind win.
