Penn State will play its final regular season game on Friday night as the Nittany Lions host Nebraska in Big Ten volleyball action.

The end of the regular season is upon us and on Friday night, No. 4 Penn State will host No. 2 Nebraska in University Park as the teams try to improve upon their records ahead of the NCAA tournament. The Nittany Lions are currently in second place in the Big Ten standings with a conference record of 18-1 and an overall record of 28-2. The team is on a five-match win streak with the most recent being a straight set victory over Rutgers on Wednesday.

The Nittany Lions made quick work of the Scarlet Knights, winning 25-12 in the first set, 25-22 in the second and 25-20 in the third. Camryn Hannah led the team offensively with 13 kills and Jess Mruzik finished closely behind with 10 kills on the night. Gillian Grimes finished the match with 13 digs to lead the team defensively while Izzy Starck, Ava Falduto and Mruzik each added 10 digs to the stat sheet for Mruzik to earn a double-double. The team held Rutgers to a hitting percentage of .133, but Nebraska will be much more challenging to handle on Friday.

The Cornhuskers are undefeated in Big Ten play with a record of 18-0 against conference opponents and the team is 28-1 overall. Nebraska dropped a loss early in the season, but has won the last 25 matches including a straight set win over No. 6 Wisconsin its last time out.

Against the Badgers, Merritt Beason and Rebekah Allick led the offensive efforts with 11 and 10 kills, respectively. The two hitters received support from Bergen Reilly who served up 36 assists in the win. Defensively, Lexi Rodriguez covered the back court, finishing the match with 16 digs as the only ‘Husker in double digits.

The last time Penn State and Nebraska met was during last year’s regular season. The game went back and forth, but Nebraska ended up on top in five sets. Tune in Friday night to see if Nebraska can finish Big Ten competition undefeated, or if Penn State can hand the Cornhuskers their only loss in Big Ten play.
