Ohio State faces off with Oregon for the first time as conference rivals in women’s college volleyball today.

This season the new faces in the Big Ten Conference are already making an impact on the court. Through the first two matches for 10th-ranked Oregon (10-1), the team has made a statement. The Ducks are 2-0 in conference with wins against historic Big Ten members Illinois and Indiana. They look to add another win to the resume with the first-ever conference match against Ohio State (7-5) today. Playing against former Pac-12 schools has been tough for the Buckeyes with losses already to 20th-ranked USC and unranked UCLA to start conference play. They will look to remedy that against the Ducks, who might be the best overall team the Buckeyes have played this season.

In those two losses to former Pac-12 schools, the Buckeyes made things as competitive as they could. Against the Trojans, they jumped out to a 1-0 lead after winning the first set 25-19 before dropping the next two sets and forcing a deciding fifth set. Against the Bruins, they stole the third set but were outclassed all match in a 3-1 loss.

For the Ducks this season has been nothing but positive, outside of a loss to the current top-ranked team in the country. In their 10 wins, they are undefeated in conference, on the road and in neutral locations. Those 10 wins have seen the Ducks only need a fifth and deciding set twice, against Grand Canyon and 17th-ranked BYU.

Otherwise, they have been on a roll. In conference play, they rolled the Illini 3-0 with two tough, competitive sets to start the match. Against the Hoosiers, they jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first two sets before closing things out in the fourth. They look to keep that momentum today against the Buckeyes.
