On Friday night, No. 3 Penn State will head to Columbus to take on Ohio State in a Big Ten match at the Covelli Center. The Buckeyes are just one spot out of last place in the conference standings with a Big Ten record of 1-5 and an overall record of 8-8. Most recently, the team hosted conference rival Michigan, falling in four sets at home. The offensive efforts were led by Emily Landot who finished the game with 24 kills, receiving support from Kamiah Hoffman who had 36 assists on the night at setter. Defensively, the team was challenged early and often and was led by Olivia Hasbrook who had a team-high 20 digs. Joining her in double figures were Landot and Gibson who added 16 and 11 digs, respectively for double-doubles in the loss.

The Nittany Lions are at the top of the Big Ten standings along with Nebraska with a perfect 6-0 record in conference play and an overall record of 16-1. The team’s only loss of the season came against No. 1 Pitt in straight sets all the way back on September 18th, but the Nittany Lions bounced back and have been dominant since. Most recently, Penn State traveled to Bloomington to play Indiana, winning in four sets. The Hoosiers came out aggressive and won the first set 25-22, but the Nittany Lions fought back and won the next three to secure the win. Jess Mruzik led the offense with 21 kills, but Camryn Hannah wasn’t far behind, finishing the game with 17 kills. Izzy Starck finished the match with 53 assists to help her earn Big Ten Freshman of the Week, her fourth time receiving Big Ten honors in her breakout season.

Last season, Penn State and Ohio State met twice. In the first meeting, the Buckeyes fell in five sets (23-25, 25-23, 25-20, 21-25, 7-15) in State College and in three sets (25-27, 12-25, 23-25) in Columbus.
