The Panthers were forced to regroup last weekend after dropping their first match of the season to then-No. 15 SMU in a five-set thriller. The team was able to stay at the top of the national rankings despite the loss and are now 16-1 overall and 6-1 in conference play after beating Cal in straight sets on Friday. Olivia Babcock was the only hitter in double figures with 16 kills, but big numbers were not necessary for the Panthers to beat the Golden Bears. The team held Cal to a -.048 hitting percentage with Torrey Stafford leading the team defensively with eight digs in the win.
Stanford setter Kami Miner and Pitt setter Rachel Fairbanks are the only returning AVCA First Team All-American setters for the 2023 season and they show their excellence each match. Torrey Stafford is hitting .409 for the season, good for 22nd in the nation and first among outside hitters to help Pitt stay atop the rankings this season.
Tune in Sunday afternoon as these two powerhouse teams go head-to-head with the hopes of holding the number two spot in the ACC standings outright with a win.
