A top 20 matchup will take place Monday night as No. 18 Minnesota hosts No. 1 Texas in non-conference volleyball action.
The 2024 women’s volleyball season is underway and on Monday night, two powerhouse programs will square off as No. 18 Minnesota plays host to No. 1 Texas at Fiserv Forum in the Intersport Volleyball Showcase. The Golden Gophers had a strong year in 2023 and will look to build upon that in 2024 after finishing fifth in the Big Ten standings. The team made it to the NCAA tournament where it beat No. 6 Utah State in the first round before losing to No. 3 Creighton in straight sets to end the year with a record of 17-13.
Returning head coach Keegan Cook is entering his second year at the helm and will look to build upon last season’s success. Melani Shaffmaster and Lydia Grote return for their fifth year. This year’s squad has been voted to finish fifth in a preseason coaches’ poll behind Nebraska, Wisconsin, Penn State and Purdue.

The Longhorns begin the season ranked No. 1 in the nation after beating top-seeded Nebraska in straight sets to claim the NCAA title in 2023. This is the 18th-consecutive season that Texas has been ranked in the top four in the AVCA preseason poll.
Last year, Texas earned the Big 12 regular season title, but in 2024, the team will seek out its first SEC title after switching conferences. 16 players return to the roster for 2024 while welcoming four newcomers to build upon an already strong team.
On Sunday, Texas began the season with a match against No. 3 Wisconsin, which it won in four sets. The Golden Gophers opened the 2024 campaign against No. 5 Stanford, falling in a five-set battle.
