Women’s gymnastics returns on Friday night as defending NCAA champion LSU takes on Iowa State in Baton Rouge.

On Friday night, women’s college gymnastics will begin as the Iowa State Cyclones take a trip south to Baton Rouge to compete against the 2024 defending national champion LSU Tigers at the Maravich Center. The Cyclones finished the 2024 season ranked 29th in the nation after ending the season with an overall record of 10-18 and a Big 12 record of 2-2. The team dropped its final three meets of the season, all of which were against Top 25 opponents. This year, the team will look to Noelle Adams and Josie Bergstrom-Te Slaa to lead the team. Both women were named to the Big 12 Gymnastics Preseason Team, a team made up of 31 spots with six athletes in each of the five events (a tie on floor results in seven honorees). Adams was selected on vault and floor while Bergstrom-Te Slaa was selected for vault.

Despite winning the national championship last season, the Tigers come into Friday’s meet with a preseason ranking of No. 2. The poll is made up of the Top 36 teams in the nation and this year’s ranking marks the 13th straight year that the Tigers will open the season ranked in the Top 10. After winning the team’s first national title the Tigers received six first place votes from members of the Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Association. This year, the team welcomes four freshmen to the squad with the hopes of increasing the overall talent level to repeat as national champions in 2025.

Tune in on Friday night as the Cyclones look to pull off an upset in Louisiana.
