Renegade cop Jack Cates (Nick Nolte) pulls bank robber Reggie Hammond (Eddie Murphy) from a federal prison on a 48-hour leave to help him capture Hammond's old partner, Albert Ganz (James Remar). Having escaped from a prison work crew, Ganz is on a killing spree around San Francisco, on the trail of half a million dollars that went missing after one of his robberies. The cocky Reggie knows where the money is, but spars with the hotheaded Jack as he enjoys his temporary freedom.

Jack Cates once again enlists the aid of ex-con Reggie Hammond. This time it is to take down The Iceman, a ruthless drug lord operating in the San Francisco Bay Area.

A former government operative renowned for his stealth, Jack Cole (Steven Seagal) is now a Los Angeles police detective. When a series of horrible murders occurs in the metro area, Cole is assigned to the case, along with tough-talking fellow cop Jim Campbell (Keenen Ivory Wayans). Although the two men clash, they gradually become effective partners as they uncover a conspiracy linked to the killings, which also involves terrorism and organized crime.

John "The Eraser" Kruger is the top gun in the US Marshall Witness Protection scheme; he erases their past and deals with their future. His latest assignment is whistle-blower Dr. Lee Cullen, who has evidence against a major arms corporation that's selling weapons to terrorists with the collusion of rogue enemy agents within, but there is danger nearer home for Kruger, from within his own department.

A mercenary with a chip on his shoulder, Karl Thomasson (Treat Williams) poses as a teacher at an inner-city school to exact revenge on the gang members who murdered his brother. As Thomasson investigates the killing and tries to keep his estranged niece, Anya (Susan Pratt), safe, he begins to realize how dysfunctional and violent the urban school environment has become. Even with support from fellow soldier Joey Six (Angel David), Thomasson is seriously outnumbered as he seeks vengeance.
