Loss of Innocence
Left alone because of their mother's sudden hospitalization during a vacation in France, four British children have to fend for themselves. They stay at a hotel, where, despite the reticence of owner Madame Zisi (Danielle Darrieux), they are befriended by her lover, Eliot (Kenneth More). Joss (Susannah York), the eldest of the children, runs afoul of Madame Zisi, who thinks Eliot is spending too much time with her and causes a scene. Robbed of Eliot's attention, Joss denounces him to the police.
No Sad Songs for Me
Upon being diagnosed with terminal cancer, selfless suburban housewife Mary Scott (Margaret Sullavan) makes the ultimate sacrifice: she decides to keep the unpleasant news from her husband, Brad (Wendell Corey), and daughter, Polly, to avoid devastating her loved ones. Instead, Mary encourages Brad's affair with a co-worker (Viveca Lindfors), and even grooms the other woman to take her place. But as Mary's illness progresses, keeping it a secret presents a considerable challenge.
Picnic
Charming Hal Carter (William Holden) turned to wandering after a failed acting career left him loose in the wind. Interested in reuniting with an old college friend, Alan Benson (Cliff Robertson), Carter bums a train ride to a tranquil Kansas town. Alan greets him warmly, and together they join the community in a picnic celebration of Labor Day. However, his welcome quickly sours when sparks ignite between him and Alan's girlfriend, Madge Owens (Kim Novak).
The Fuller Brush Girl
Milquetoast Humphrey Briggs (Eddie Albert) and his impetuous girlfriend, Sally Elliot (Lucille Ball), are office workers at a shipping firm whose corrupt owner, Harvey Simpson (Jerome Cowan), uses his company as a front for a massive smuggling operation. When an accident causes Simpson's rich and jealous wife (Lee Patrick) to assume he's cheating on her, the lovebirds get unwillingly drawn into a murder investigation involving a stripper (Gale Robbins) and a hired killer (Fred Graham).
Bell, Book and Candle
In the late 1950s, Gillian Holroyd (Kim Novak) is a modern-day witch living in New York City's Greenwich Village. When she encounters charming publisher Shepherd Henderson (James Stewart), she decides to make him hers by casting a love spell. Gillian takes added pleasure in doing so because Henderson is engaged to her old college rival (Janice Rule). However, Gillian finds herself actually falling for Shepherd, which poses a problem: She will lose her powers if she falls in love.
Three for the Show
Julie (Betty Grable), a beloved singer, is married to songwriter Marty Stewart (Jack Lemmon), who disappears while serving in the Korean War. Eventually, Julie assumes that her husband has died and marries Marty's closest pal, Vernon Lowndes (Gower Champion). Vernon and Julie have a happy marriage until Marty suddenly arrives back home, alive and well. The two men are at one another's throats, and Julie is mortified -- that is, until she realizes there may be an advantage to having two husbands.
Operation Mad Ball
Posted in France, Pvt. Hogan (Jack Lemmon) falls hard for Betty Bixby (Kathryn Grant), a nurse who happens to be a lieutenant, which means they are forbidden to fraternize due to their ranks. Always one to skirt the rules, Hogan, with the help of his friend Cpl. Bohun (Dick York), cooks up a scheme to throw a clandestine ball for all the soldiers and nurses. But the two have their work cut out for them when the authoritative Capt. Paul Lock (Ernie Kovacs) starts breathing down their necks.
Hamlet
The life of Prince Hamlet of Denmark (Nicol Williamson) is thrown into disarray when he learns that his father was murdered by his uncle Claudius (Anthony Hopkins), the current king, who is now married to Hamlet's mother, Gertrude (Judy Parfitt). Hamlet's unstable behavior troubles his love, Ophelia (Marianne Faithfull), who is further shaken by the death of her father, Polonius (Mark Dignam). Hamlet methodically plots vengeance while other forces conspire to attack him.
