Milquetoast Humphrey Briggs (Eddie Albert) and his impetuous girlfriend, Sally Elliot (Lucille Ball), are office workers at a shipping firm whose corrupt owner, Harvey Simpson (Jerome Cowan), uses his company as a front for a massive smuggling operation. When an accident causes Simpson's rich and jealous wife (Lee Patrick) to assume he's cheating on her, the lovebirds get unwillingly drawn into a murder investigation involving a stripper (Gale Robbins) and a hired killer (Fred Graham).

To Sir, With Love

American Mark Thackeray (Sidney Poitier) recently received his degree in engineering, but cannot find work. To make ends meet, he takes a job as a teacher in a rough London East End school populated mostly with troublemakers who were rejected from other schools for their behavior. While the students at first see Thackeray as just another teacher open for ridicule and bullying, his calm demeanor and desire to see them succeed gradually earn him their respect.

At an Army barracks in Hawaii in the days preceding the attack on Pearl Harbor, lone-wolf soldier and boxing champion Prew Prewitt (Montgomery Clift) refuses to box, preferring to play the bugle instead. Hard-hearted Capt. Holmes (Philip Ober) subjects Prew to a grueling series of punishments while, unknown to Holmes, the gruff but fair Sgt. When her husband disappears, Carly Hardwicke (Kim Novak) finds it impossible to rent a room in her London apartment, since everyone assumes she's a murderer.
