Theodora Lynn (Irene Dunne) is secretly the author of a salacious novel written under a pen name. She must hide her identity from the residents of her small, conservative Connecticut town, who disapprove of the book. When Theodora goes to New York to visit her publisher (Thurston Hall), she meets the book's cover artist, Michael Grant (Melvyn Douglas), who tries to convince her to reveal herself as the real author. When Theodora falls for Michael, she soon finds that he has secrets of his own.

You Can't Run Away From It

Furious over the elopement of his daughter, Ellie (June Allyson), with a fortune hunter, millionaire A.A. Andrews (Charles Bickford) has her kidnapped and sequestered on his yacht. Ellie defies her father by escaping and taking a bus to meet her husband, only to lose all her money to a thief. Ellen Grant (Lucille Ball) is the worst student at her secretarial school, yet surprisingly, she is hired by real estate agent Dick Richmond (William Holden). It turns out that Dick's real estate office is just a front for a betting operation. When Ellen unknowingly takes a large bet from Dick's old flame, Peggy (Janis Carter), Peggy demands that Dick must either pay up or run off with her. It's up to the dizzy Miss Grant to find a way to extract Dick from this mess.

In the late 1950s, Gillian Holroyd (Kim Novak) is a modern-day witch living in New York City's Greenwich Village. When she encounters charming publisher Shepherd Henderson (James Stewart), she decides to make him hers by casting a love spell. Gillian takes added pleasure in doing so because Henderson is engaged to her old college rival (Janice Rule). However, Gillian finds herself actually falling for Shepherd, which poses a problem: She will lose her powers if she falls in love.

The Caine Mutiny

During World War II, a dilapidated vessel, the Caine, gets a new ensign, Willis Keith (Robert Francis), and a new captain, Commander Queeg (Humphrey Bogart). The crew sees Queeg's unconventional behavior as irrational, and communications officer Thomas Keefer (Fred MacMurray) spreads suspicion about his suitability as captain. When a dire situation during a storm forces the executive officer (Van Johnson) to relieve Queeg of his duties, he and Ensign Keith are tried for mutiny.
