After her second miscarriage, Paula Rogers (Loretta Young) learns she is sterile. Thinking Paula is drunk, farmer Raymond Bascom (Will Wright) takes the boy to the hospital. Unwilling to confess her role in the hit-and-run for fear of derailing John's career, Paula volunteers at the hospital and helps Davey recover without admitting her guilt.
