Mal Granger (Edmond O'Brien) is a telephone repairman with a passion for horse betting. He puts his electronics expertise to work assisting gangster Vince Walters (Barry Kelly) in expanding his illegal racing wire, and, when Walters is murdered, Granger takes over the operation. However, Granger's growing success is soon threatened by both Larry Mason (Donald Porter), an East Coast mobster who wants in on the action, and Lieutenant Pete Wright (Howard St. John), who's after Granger for murder.

Eight Iron Men

In Italy during World War II, a squad of American soldiers is scattered by sniper fire, leaving one soldier, Pvt. Small (George Cooper), trapped inside a foxhole. Pvt. Coke (Richard Kiley) reports back to camp and presses his commanding officer, Sgt. Joe Mooney (Lee Marvin), to dispatch a rescue team. But orders for the division to pull out of the area place the squad in the uncomfortable position of attempting the rescue at the risk of going against military protocol.

The Chase

When "Bubber" Reeves (Robert Redford) escapes from prison, it upsets the folks in the nearby town of Tarl, Texas. Sheriff Calder (Marlon Brando) wants to capture Reeves alive, which puts him in opposition to many of the townspeople who have resorted to mob justice. Businessman Val Rogers (E.G. Marshall) wants Calder to apprehend Reeves quickly, through any means, since he fears the criminal will come after Val's son, Jake, who is sleeping with Reeves' wife (Jane Fonda).

A Night to Remember

In this suspenseful comedy, Nancy Troy (Loretta Young) and her mystery-author husband, Jeff (Brian Aherne), move into a dark basement apartment in New York City's Greenwich Village, in hopes of stirring up writing inspiration. When their neighbors begin acting oddly and one of them turns up dead, Nancy and Jeff must uncover a murder mystery in their own building, with a number of suspects lurking about, including the creepy Mrs. Devoe (Gale Sondergaard).

Picnic

Charming Hal Carter (William Holden) turned to wandering after a failed acting career left him loose in the wind. Interested in reuniting with an old college friend, Alan Benson (Cliff Robertson), Carter bums a train ride to a tranquil Kansas town. Alan greets him warmly, and together they join the community in a picnic celebration of Labor Day. However, his welcome quickly sours when sparks ignite between him and Alan's girlfriend, Madge Owens (Kim Novak).

Dead Reckoning

War heroes Rip Murdock (Humphrey Bogart) and Johnny Drake (William Prince) are sent to Washington, D.C., by train, but are not told why. During the trip, they learn they're about to receive top honors for their service. Johnny, seemingly terrified by the publicity that awaits him, jumps off the train and later turns up dead. Suspecting foul play, Rip begins digging into his pal's past. He encounters cover-ups, threats to his own life and deadly femme fatale Coral Chandler (Lizabeth Scott).
