First Comes Courage
Beautiful Norwegian woman Nicole Larsen (Merle Oberon) is dedicated to the local resistance movement, and seduces Nazi officer Paul Dichter (Carl Esmond) in order to gain information that will help to defeat the Germans. Complicating matters for Nicole are both the difficulty of her loathsome undercover work and the appearance of an old flame, handsome English soldier Allan Lowell (Brian Aherne), who would like nothing more than to reunite with her.
Three for the Show
Julie (Betty Grable), a beloved singer, is married to songwriter Marty Stewart (Jack Lemmon), who disappears while serving in the Korean War. Eventually, Julie assumes that her husband has died and marries Marty's closest pal, Vernon Lowndes (Gower Champion). Vernon and Julie have a happy marriage until Marty suddenly arrives back home, alive and well. The two men are at one another's throats, and Julie is mortified -- that is, until she realizes there may be an advantage to having two husbands.
Eight Iron Men
In Italy during World War II, a squad of American soldiers is scattered by sniper fire, leaving one soldier, Pvt. Small (George Cooper), trapped inside a foxhole. Pvt. Coke (Richard Kiley) reports back to camp and presses his commanding officer, Sgt. Joe Mooney (Lee Marvin), to dispatch a rescue team. But orders for the division to pull out of the area place the squad in the uncomfortable position of attempting the rescue at the risk of going against military protocol.
Cat Ballou
When hired gun Tim Strawn (Lee Marvin) kills her rancher father, Cat Ballou (Jane Fonda) becomes an outlaw set on vengeance. Enlisting the help of washed-up gunslinger Kid Shelleen (also Marvin) as well as the handsome bandit Clay Boone (Michael Callan), Cat strikes back at the land-development company that employed Strawn, and eventually targets the assassin himself. Adding to the lively comedic mood of the film are narrative song performances by Nat King Cole and Stubby Kaye.
You Can't Take It With You
Sweet-natured Alice Sycamore (Jean Arthur) falls for banker's son Tony Kirby (James Stewart). But when she invites her snooty prospective in-laws to dinner to give their blessing to the marriage, Alice's peculiar extended family -- including philosophical grandfather Martin Vanderhof (Lionel Barrymore), hapless fledgling ballerina sister Essie (Ann Miller) and fireworks enthusiast father, Paul (Samuel S. Hinds) -- might be too eccentric for the staid Kirbys.
The Bridge on the River Kwai
Adaptation of the Pierre Bouelle novel about POWs in Burma forced to build a bridge to aid the war effort of their Japanese captors. British and American officers plot to blow up the structure, but the commander of the bridge's construction has different plans.
The Long Gray Line
High-spirited Irish immigrant Marty Maher (Tyrone Power) is an awkward misfit at West Point until he's taken in as an assistant by kindly athletic director Capt. Herman J. Koehler (Ward Bond). A budding romance that turns into a happy marriage to a fellow Irish immigrant, housemaid Mary O'Donnell (Maureen O'Hara), also helps Maher mellow into a beloved and long-standing fixture at the military academy, where his career as an officer and mentor spans 50 years. This film is based on a true story.
