Prosecutors wanted to show how far they believed the former interior designer went to kill her stepfather, Tom Merriman, and dispose of his body. They called to the stand one of the men she was accused of asking to help her. Brian Salomon claimed that Jade Janks wanted to put a pillowcase over her stepfather's head and a rope around his neck. Salomon testified that he ran away from her at one point on the day prosecutors said she killed her stepfather.

Years before Rosemarie lost her life, Yazeed had an on-and-off sexual relationship with at least two women, both of whom he ended up hiring and becoming his children's nanny.

A police interview was read out loud in court. It happened weeks after Rosemarie Essa was killed and Yazeed was a wanted suspected who fled the country. Two of the defendant's mistresses were considered suspects in the poisoning murder. So, law enforcement brought them in for questioning. Next, prosecutors called in a retired special agent of the FBI. He happened to be a criminal behavior expert who reviewed Yazeed's actions leading up to and after Rosemarie was poisoned to death.

An expert in criminal behavior explained to the jury the nuance in this case that involved Rosemarie Essa, a healthy mom who suddenly died by an undetected and rare poison. The judge allowed prosecutors to bring in this expert to speak on why a person would taint his wife's nine calcium pills and try to evade police. Greg McCrary called Yazeed's behavior leading up to Rosemarie's poisoning death as narcissistic. Next, another homicide detective working this case took the stand.

The second detective who investigated the murder of Yazeed Essa's wife continued his testimony. Detective Dennis Matejcici explained to the jury on how his team eliminated the possibility of Rosemarie's calcium bottle being contaminated with cyanide poisoning. Investigators needed to paint the full picture on why and how Rosemarie's husband could plan her death, attempt to get away with it, and then flee the country as a fugitive as police zeroed in on him as a prime suspect.
