Six-year-old Corey Micciolo lost his life by blunt force trauma suffered when his father, Christopher Gregor, forced him to run on a treadmill because he was too fat. The defendant was charged with first-degree murder and endangering the welfare of a child. He faced a maximum Penalty of 40 years in prison.

Prosecutors began their evidence to the jury with testimony from Corey Micciolo's mother. She confirmed that the defendant, Christopher Gregor, entered Corey's life when he was 5 years old. Jurors learned of the family drama Corey was born in. Breanna Micciolo was only 17 years old and in the 11th grade dealing with a methamphetamine addiction when Corey was born. His father, Gregor, didn't even know he was the father until he was 5 years old.

The Jury learned about the emotions of a mother who was in fear of her young child's life. Just weeks before Corey Micciolo died, just after a hospital visit, Breanna Micciolo, had to file an emergency order of protection to get full custody away from Christopher Gregor, Corey's dad. The defendant was initially charged with child neglect, based in part on the treadmill video police reviewed. After his arrest for murder, Gregor rejected the State's plea deal of a 30-year prison sentence.
