According to prosecutors a deadly game of hide-and-seek led to the death of Jorge Torres. This happened after the couple were allegedly drinking several bottles of wine.

Alcoholism. That's how Sarah Boone's defense began their opening statements. Her lead attorney James Owens told jurors about the alcohol addiction she and her Jorge Torres dealt with and how it often mixed in with domestic violence. Owens argued that the suitcase Torres was zipped in was a physical restraint to block a potential attack in Boone's attempt at self-defense. Domestic violence was a running theme in the relationship between the defendant and the victim.

More of the drama in the torrid relationship between Jorge Torres and Sarah Boone spilled out in testimony. Prosecutors called in former neighbors of the couple. They told the jury that they heard constant yelling and arguing from across the apartment unit's very thin walls. Torres was charged a total of four times for domestic battery against Boone. In each of those times she bailed him out of jail.

Melody Farris's defense attorney had more questions for the lead investigator in this case. A CSI team led by a forensic anthropologist excavated and collected the victim's remains found buried in a burn pile on his property. Lead investigator Chris Shaw had more to say on how his team processed the massive crime scene. Police reenacted the fatal shooting in the home with a test fire on a dummy model.

Jurors watched test-firing that police did inside the Farris home during their on-site investigation. The aim was to reenact the manner in which Gary Farris lost his life to fatal gunshots and then his dead body was dragged to a burn pile to be incinerated and then later buried. Prosecutors had former Lieutenant Chris Shaw walk the jury through how Gary was fatally shot in his own home and his remains covered up in a burn pile outside.

The State called in a fire battalion chief to the stand. Crime scene investigators who testified earlier recalled that the burn pile where Gary Farris' remains were found was so hot and burning they called the fire department to come out. Jurors then listened to testimony from a close neighbor to the Farris family. Just days before Gary's remains were found, he went missing. His family began searching the property and the neighborhood for him.

The neighbor caught up in the middle of the Farris family drama continued his testimony. Terry Braswell recalled his close relationship with Melody and what the two of them were texting each other in the lead-up to her husband's disappearance and eventual death. He told jurors he and she were so close he knew about her longtime affair she was having outside of her marriage. While Braswell admitted that he didn't get too involved in her affairs, he did have enough details on what was happening.

The jury learned about the family problems that led to a tragic murder and an attempted cover-up. The defendant's own son testified against her. The State alleged that family drama dealing with finances and extramarital affairs led to Gary Farris' death at the hands of his wife. Chris Farris, the couple's oldest child, gave background on his family. Context was important for jurors in understanding how the Farris' home life gradually turned turbulent leading to murder.

During their case-in-chief Susan Wright's Defense brought up separate domestic incidents between her and Jeff, her husband. With friends on the witness stand jurors learned of Jeff, The Angry, abusive husband who physically hurt Susan and their young son. Just get a divorce. That's what the prosecution brought up under cross-examination of the defendant's close friend.

Susan Wright's attorneys called her mother to the stand to give more insight into the drama of her marriage to Jeff. The Defense wanted to show how much of a victim of domestic abuse the defendant was in the months and weeks before the murder. Sue Wyche testified that at one point Susan moved out of her home with her allegedly abusive husband, Jeff, and then moved in with her parents. The reason - the constant physical, mental, and emotional abuse.

Susan Wright's mother was drilled under cross-examination. On the stand, she admitted that her daughter lied to friends and family after she killed Jeff, her husband, but told the truth when she confessed to her parents and law enforcement. Sue Wyche claimed her daughter was afraid to divorce her husband. After Wyche wrapped up her testimony to jurors, the defendant took the stand in her own defense.

The defendant, Melody Farris, was charged with murder, aggravated assault, concealing a death, making a false statement in the shooting death of her husband, Gary. Prosecutors gave their murder timeline on how Melody murdered her husband of 38 years and then tried to cover it up. Initially, police thought Gary had a medical emergency and accidentally fell into a fire.

They claimed police acted on confirmation bias when they allegedly erroneously narrowed in on the defendant for the death of her husband, Gary. A complicated family coupled with a complicated police investigation all led to fingers pointing at Melody Farris for first-degree murder.

Next, jurors heard the 911 call that identified the charred body of the victim was called in by his son. On the stand, was the paramedic who was called to the scene. Investigators found Gary Farris' remains in a fiery pit roughly 15 feet wide and five inches deep.

The responding paramedic answered questions under cross-examination. The initial 911 call came from her son who identified the burnt body of Gary Farris, his father. Next, prosecutors called in a crime scene technician. Lieutenant Lee Stewart processed the crime scene where the burnt up remains of Gary Farris were found buried on his own property.
