Both the defense and state's forensic psychiatrist agreed that Lorena was a sick woman. Her defense alleged that acute psychosis drove her to mutilate her husband. But the state claimed the very target of her cutting was in itself a goal-oriented, reasoned action.

The State's forensic psychiatrist told jurors that Lorena Bobbitt was not insane when she attacked her husband. Dr. Miller Ryans concluded after evaluating the defendant that she chopped off John's penis in a malicious, pre-planned attempt to hurt him. The prosecution team recalled John back to the stand and raised questions on claims Lorena made under oath. They included abortions, forced anal sex, and moments of marital rape. All of which he denied he forced on her.

John Bobbitt, who was back on the witness stand, answered questions under cross-examination. He told the jury that it was not marital rape that led Lorena to cut off his penis but that she was frustrated with bad sex that night. In the State's rebuttal case John's close friends and family testified to specific incidents that occurred in the Bobbitt's home life. Jurors heard a side of Lorena that differed from her testimony.

John Bobbitt's cousin faced cross-examination. He testified that Lorena was physical toward John and even began fights between the two. Jurors later listened to testimony from several members of her husband, John's side of the family. His aunt, who raised John since he was five, told jurors that he and Lorena rushed to get married because her green card was about to expire. The aunt later testified that the big separation during his marriage with Lorena was because she was a mean wife.

Just days before Lorena Bobbitt maimed her husband, John, she told a neighbor that she was leaving him. On the stand this friend recalled that she offered Lorena a place to stay but Lorena never took her up on her offer. Next, the jury heard all about an off-handed joke Lorena made at work weeks before this attack. It include cutting her husband's penis off because it would hurt more than killing him. Jurors would decide if Lorena Bobbitt was really joking when she did this very thing.

Testimony took jurors back to the bar where Karen Read and her boyfriend, John O'Keefe were hanging out hours before he was killed. He would be found in the snow on the lawn of a retired Boston police sergeant. On the stand was ATF Special Agent Brian Higgins. He would later admit to jurors that he sent flirty texts to the defendant while she was with O'Keefe. Prosecutors hoped this would show that they had a rocky relationship before he died and help prove their theory of what happened.

An ATF special agent testified for the State. But he wasn't there because of his job. He was telling jurors about his connection to the defendant and the victim, John O'Keefe. Was Brian Higgins was with Karen Read and her boyfriend at the bar hours before he died. The state brought in texts between read Higgins to try to show that there were issues in her relationship with John O'Keefe. This was key to the prosecution's case which alleged she killed him because things between them were strained.

The state of Karen Read's intimate relationship with the victim, John O'Keefe, was crucial to the prosecution's case. She was accused of killing him in a hit-and-run after a night of drinking. On the stand, Brian Higgins claimed the defendant planted a kiss on me as he was leaving her home after a visited. Jurors learned about how flirtatious things got between Higgins and read just weeks before O'Keefe was killed.

Jurors listened to the forensic psychiatrist who evaluated the defendant after the incident. Dr. Susan Feister recalled how Lorena couldn't remember and did not have the capacity of right and wrong at the time of the knife attack. She concluded that not only was Lorena a battered wife but had suicidal thoughts. Her diagnosis of the defendant included: major depressive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder and panic disorder.

The jury heard all about the mental health issues Lorena Bobbitt was going through up until the time she sliced off her husband John's penis. The forensic psychiatrist Dr. Susan Feister, who evaluated her, testified that it all stemmed from years of physical and emotional abuse she endured during her marriage to John. This mental health doctor claimed Lorena became psychotic when she mutilated her husband.

The forensic psychiatrist on the stand claimed she suffered acute psychosis when she cut of the genitalia of her husband, John, while he was sleeping. Dr. Susan Feister went on to say that Lorena felt so trapped in her marriage that out of desperation she attacked the weapon of her torture - her husband's penis. Dr. Feister faced a probing cross-examination. The state wanted to challenge this expert's detail mental health diagnosis of the defendant.

In her trial, prosecution continued to challenge the mental health evaluation of Lorena Bobbitt. Dr. Susan Feister claimed Lorena's serious mental disorders led to a psychotic break when she attacked her husband, John. The state challenged the degree to which Lorena fell to acute psychosis when she attacked her husband with a kitchen knife. How long was this lapse in judgment and morality? How long was this temporary insanity? The jury would answer those questions later in their deliberations.

The Defense's mental health expert found herself defending her expert conclusions on what caused Lorena Bobbitt to mutilate her own husband, John. Dr. Susan Feister concluded that after four separate interviews that Lorena suffered an acute psychosis when she attacked her husband. Jurors then learned about the concept of irresistible impulse. This was the criteria used in the Defense's case for insanity. Lorena claimed temporary insanity at the moment of the attack.
