On the stand was man who provided him a furnished apartment, fake ID's, and access to money. Jamal Khalife claimed that the defendant was getting arrogant while he was a fugitive in Lebanon, which Khalife claimed led him to getting captured. He was eventually extradited back to the U.S. to stand trial for the poisoning death of his wife, Rosemarie.

The Defense accused Jamal Khalife on the stand of making up his story about the defendant confessing to killing his wife, Rosemarie Essa. The reason? So he could get immunity for a 28-count federal indictment he was facing. During cross-examination, Yazeed's defense tried to discredit Khalife who helped him when he was a fugitive after the death of his wife. By bringing up the crimes Khalife was accused of, Yazeed's defense raised red flags to the jury about his credibility.

His lawyer was trying to discredit him and his claims that the defendant confessed and bragged about killing his wife, Rosemarie. Khalife claimed to confirm federal crimes committed before and after Yazeed fled the U.S.

Jamal Khalife testified that it didn't take long for Yazeed Essa to tell people in Lebanon that he killed his wife, Rosemarie, with cyanide. But under cross-examination, Khalife admitted that he was told Yazeed arrived in Lebanon because of tax evasion. Later, Khalife recalled for the jury the time he and the defendant eventually fell out and Yazeed ended up in jail in the country of Cyprus.

The long cross-examination of Yazeed Essa's alleged fixer was not over yet. When investigators said they began closing in on him as a suspect, Yazeed suddenly left the country. It was Jamal Khalife who said he helped him. Khalife claimed to have helped Yazeed Essa hide from U.S. officials and lie to police about his situation. But when Yazeed left Lebanon to go to Cyprus, where he would be arrested, he allegedly did not say goodbye or thank you. And to Khalife that was a stab in the back.
