I'll Be Seeing You
In this romantic drama, Zachary Morgan (Joseph Cotten) and Mary Marshall (Ginger Rogers) meet on a train and immediately sense a mutual attraction. However, both Zach and Mary are shouldering significant secrets: he is a traumatized war vet on leave from a military hospital, and she is a convict who has been temporarily released from prison for the Christmas holiday. As the attractive young couple spends time together, their secrets threaten their budding relationship.
Boys Town
The devout but iron-willed Father Flanagan (Spencer Tracy) leads a community called Boys Town, a different sort of juvenile detention facility where, instead of being treated as underage criminals, the boys are shepherded into making themselves better people. But hard-nosed petty thief and pool shark Whitey Marsh (Mickey Rooney), the impulsive and violent younger brother of an imprisoned murderer, might be too much for the good father's tough-love system.
Tenth Avenue Angel
Eight-year-old Flavia Mills (Margaret O'Brien) lives in a tenement building in New York City with her family. Her aunt, Susan (Angela Lansbury), awaits the return of her fiancé, Steve (George Murphy), who has been in prison. Upon Steve's return, Flavia tries to help him regain her aunt's love and find his place in society. But, when Flavia learns the truth about Steve's criminal past, her faith in humanity is brought into question, and she must try to face adversity with her usual optimism.
North From the Lone Star
Wild Bill Hickok (Bill Elliott) puts on a badge to clean up a town.
Westbound
A former Union officer, John Hayes (Randolph Scott) now manages a stagecoach company. However, Clay Putnam (Andrew Duggan), a businessman still loyal to the South, is intent on robbing the coaches operated by Hayes, which transport gold to the North from California. Hoping to heist the treasure as a way to revive the Confederacy, Putnam also has a grudge against Hayes, since his wife, Norma (Virginia Mayo), was once involved with the handsome Union soldier.
Of Human Hearts
When preacher Ethan Wilkins (Walter Huston) relocates to a small, hardscrabble town on the Ohio River, he's surprised by the poor treatment he gets from the locals, but bears it quietly. His son, Jason (James Stewart), however, hates the town. Against his father's wishes, he aspires to be a doctor, and demands that his mother (Beulah Bondi) sell off her few possessions to pay for his education. When the Civil War breaks out, he finds success as a surgeon, but is estranged from his family.
Holiday Inn
In this Irving Berlin musical, Jim (Bing Crosby) and Lila are members of a performing trio who plan to quit and run a country hotel. When Lila says she has fallen in love with the dancer in the act, Ted (Fred Astaire), Jim leaves town with a broken heart. After turning the inn into a holidays-only live entertainment venue, Jim winds up booking -- and falling for -- Linda (Marjorie Reynolds). But when Ted shows up at the place after being dumped by Lila, he too sets his sights on beautiful Linda.
Christmas Eve
Matilda Reid (Ann Harding) is in danger of being declared senile at the urging of her nephew, Phillip (Reginald Denny). To keep him from controlling her estate, Matilda must find her three adopted sons, who left home long ago. One of them, Michael (George Brent), lives in New York, where he's incurred a $75,000 debt. Another, fugitive Mario (George Raft), is hiding in South America. The last, Jonathan (Randolph Scott), is a small-time cowboy. All three must come home to save Matilda's fortune.
