The Rainmaker
During the Great Depression, a drought is wreaking havoc on a small, destitute Kansas town. Bill Starbuck (Burt Lancaster), a slick grifter, arrives in town, promising he can make it rain in exchange for $100. His offer is accepted by H. C. Curry (Cameron Prudhomme), a rancher whose spinster daughter, Lizzie (Katharine Hepburn), is desperate for a suitor. Lizzie finally finds confidence when Starbuck, ever the smooth talker, convinces her she's beautiful.
Tall Man Riding
A few years ago, Larry Madden (Randolph Scott) left his fiancée, Corinna (Dorothy Malone), after a run-in with her father, the wealthy land owner Tucker Ordway (Robert Barrat). After saving a man (William Ching) from a vicious attack, Larry learns hen is actually Corinna's new husband, and that some of the locals are preparing to challenge Tucker's land ownership. When Larry decides to ride back into town and make a claim himself, he encounters a few unexpected obstacles.

Holly Parker (Lana Turner) is married to high-powered diplomat Clay Anderson (John Forsythe), but finds that her attention wanders when he's away. She starts an affair with a wealthy bachelor (Ricardo Montalban), but her life unravels when he dies unexpectedly. Her mother-in-law (Constance Bennett) advises Holly to leave Clay and their baby and start a new life. Years later, when a petty criminal (Burgess Meredith) tries to blackmail Holly, who is now a prostitute, things get even worse for her.
The Bachelor and the Bobby-Soxer
Artist playboy Dickie Nugent (Cary Grant) appears before beautiful judge Margaret Turner (Myrna Loy) for fighting at a nightclub, and charms her into dismissing the charge. That same day, Dickie happens to lecture at a high school, where Margaret's teenage sister, Susan (Shirley Temple), falls head-over-heels for him. Things get complicated when Susan sneaks away and is found in Dickie's apartment, and downright zany when he is court ordered to date the teen as a way of easing her attraction.
Rio Grande
The conniving Ed Barker (Dick Curtis) murders a rancher and tries to steal the ranch from his widow, Jean Andrews (Ann Doran). However, their old friend Cliff Houston (Charles Starrett) appears on the scene to try and save the day. He makes a deal with Barker and his crew to drive the Andrews herd to market and split the money, but each man really plans to con the other as soon as the time is right. Along for the ride is singing cowboy Bob Stevens (Bob Nolan).

The Durango Kid (Charles Starrett) has himself thrown in jail to trick an outlaw known as the Hawk (Clayton Moore) and bring him and his entire gang to justice.
