Tenth Avenue Angel

Eight-year-old Flavia Mills (Margaret O'Brien) lives in a tenement building in New York City with her family. Her aunt, Susan (Angela Lansbury), awaits the return of her fiancé, Steve (George Murphy), who has been in prison. Upon Steve's return, Flavia tries to help him regain her aunt's love and find his place in society. But, when Flavia learns the truth about Steve's criminal past, her faith in humanity is brought into question, and she must try to face adversity with her usual optimism.

A former Union officer, John Hayes (Randolph Scott) now manages a stagecoach company. However, Clay Putnam (Andrew Duggan), a businessman still loyal to the South, is intent on robbing the coaches operated by Hayes, which transport gold to the North from California. Hoping to heist the treasure as a way to revive the Confederacy, Putnam also has a grudge against Hayes, since his wife, Norma (Virginia Mayo), was once involved with the handsome Union soldier.

Of Human Hearts

When preacher Ethan Wilkins (Walter Huston) relocates to a small, hardscrabble town on the Ohio River, he's surprised by the poor treatment he gets from the locals, but bears it quietly. His son, Jason (James Stewart), however, hates the town. Against his father's wishes, he aspires to be a doctor, and demands that his mother (Beulah Bondi) sell off her few possessions to pay for his education. When the Civil War breaks out, he finds success as a surgeon, but is estranged from his family.

Holiday Inn

In this Irving Berlin musical, Jim (Bing Crosby) and Lila are members of a performing trio who plan to quit and run a country hotel. When Lila says she has fallen in love with the dancer in the act, Ted (Fred Astaire), Jim leaves town with a broken heart. After turning the inn into a holidays-only live entertainment venue, Jim winds up booking -- and falling for -- Linda (Marjorie Reynolds). But when Ted shows up at the place after being dumped by Lila, he too sets his sights on beautiful Linda.

Christmas Eve

Matilda Reid (Ann Harding) is in danger of being declared senile at the urging of her nephew, Phillip (Reginald Denny). To keep him from controlling her estate, Matilda must find her three adopted sons, who left home long ago. One of them, Michael (George Brent), lives in New York, where he's incurred a $75,000 debt. Another, fugitive Mario (George Raft), is hiding in South America. The last, Jonathan (Randolph Scott), is a small-time cowboy. All three must come home to save Matilda's fortune.

Holiday Affair

Charming seasonal clerk Steve Mason (Robert Mitchum) catches beautiful Connie Ennis (Janet Leigh) in a fraudulent shopping scheme during the busy Christmas rush. But when he discovers that Ennis is a war widow and single mother, Mason takes pity on her and can't bring himself to turn her in. His supervisor takes notice and fires him on the spot. Mason befriends Connie and her young son, Timmy (Gordon Gebert), and may complicate her plans to marry boring nice guy Carl Davis (Wendell Corey).

Come to the Stable

In this heartwarming 1949 film, Sister Margaret (Loretta Young) and Sister Scholastica (Celeste Holm) arrive unannounced and determined to build a children's hospital in the small New England town of Bethlehem. They seek to fulfill a promise they made to God when he saved a similar infirmary in war-torn Normandy. To build it, the sisters recruit various townspeople, negotiate with a bookie (Thomas Gomez) for the land and contend with a songwriter (Hugh Marlowe) who's set against the project.
