She demurs until Alfred's banker friend, Philip Adams (Cary Grant), arrives and a flirtation begins. Their romance blossoms -- but he's already married.

A man and a woman have a romance while on a cruise from Europe to New York. Despite being engaged to other people, both agree to reunite at the top of the Empire State Building in six months. Smitten, Annie accepts a ride from Marty to the party, where she delights him by teaching him to jitterbug. Annie begins dating Marty, but she is brought up short when his family refuses to invite her to his birthday party because of her working-class, eccentric father.
