The Man From Colorado

In Colorado at the end of the Civil War, Col. Owen Devereaux (Glenn Ford), affected by four years of brutal bloodshed, orders the massacre of a Confederate unit, even as they try to surrender. Devereaux's friend and second in command, Capt. Del Stewart (William Holden), is the only one aware of the surrender attempt. Devereaux returns home to a hero's welcome and is appointed a judge, yet his irrational and angry behavior continues, affecting his fiancée, Caroline (Ellen Drew), as well as Del.

The honorable Calem Ware (Randolph Scott), marshal of the Wild West boomtown of Medicine Bend, attempts to defuse the simmering tensions in his rapidly growing and increasingly violent town, as a greedy businessman (Warner Anderson) hires a sinister black-gloved gunman (Michael Pate) to take care of his problems with the marshal for good. Now, with the citizens of Bitters held hostage by Bruhn and his men, Starrett must somehow rescue his town and restore his broken reputation.

Charming Hal Carter (William Holden) turned to wandering after a failed acting career left him loose in the wind. Interested in reuniting with an old college friend, Alan Benson (Cliff Robertson), Carter bums a train ride to a tranquil Kansas town. Alan greets him warmly, and together they join the community in a picnic celebration of Labor Day. However, his welcome quickly sours when sparks ignite between him and Alan's girlfriend, Madge Owens (Kim Novak).

Rancher Reece Kilgore (Lyle Bettger) picks a fight with Indians in the hope that he can run them off their land and mine it for silver. Then a masked lawman, the Lone Ranger (Clayton Moore) and his Indian sidekick, Tonto (Jay Silverheels), are sent to investigate. The Indians are armed and ready to defend themselves, but the Lone Ranger is wounded while trying to prevent Kilgore from using explosives in the battle. Backed by cavalrymen, he and Tonto pursue justice.
