The Burning Hills
Cattle rancher Trace Jordan (Tab Hunter) discovers the dead body of his brother and seeks out Joe Sutton (Ray Teal), the cattle baron he knows killed him. Jordan kills Sutton in an act of self-defense during a shoot-out, but is also wounded and flees. He attempts to escape as Sutton's henchmen pursue him, and is soon joined by a half-Mexican woman named Maria (Natalie Wood), whose father had also been killed by Sutton. Eventually Sutton's men find them, and a confrontation occurs.

Albert "Lat" Evans (Don Murray) is a cowboy who dreams of becoming rich and successful. He becomes friendly with ranch hand Tom, and the two hunt wolves. After this ends badly, Lat borrows money from Callie (Lee Remick), a local woman who has feelings for him. Gradually, Lat becomes a successful rancher, ultimately forsaking Callie and Tom to marry Joyce, a banker's daughter. As Lat moves into politics, he must decide whether or not to ally himself with the devious Jehu (Richard Egan).

There's trouble brewing for Marshal Cass Silver (Robert Ryan), a Kansas lawman struggling to maintain peace in his small cattle town. As the community awaits a sweep of trail herds coming from Texas, Honest John Barrett (Robert Middleton), the shady owner of the town saloon, plots to have Silver killed. Things get even worse when Thad Anderson (Jeffrey Hunter), the son of a hired gun killed by Silver years earlier in self-defense, arrives in town.

When Mose ventures into a sparse village to buy a few necessities, he is met with violent hostility from Denton Baxter (Michael Gambon), an affluent landowner, and his right-hand man, Poole (James Russo). When Mose doesn't come back, Boss and Charley realize he's in trouble, so they plot to get him back and get revenge on those who captured him.

Soon after arriving, they discover that the town has fallen into the grasp of greedy rancher Ethan McKendrick (Ray Baker) and corrupt Sheriff Cobb (Brian Dennehy) with whom many of Emmett's men have unfinished business.

While they aren't looking to find trouble, trouble soon finds them when they become targets of the ruthless Cowboy gang. Now, together with Wyatt's best friend, Doc Holliday, the brothers pick up their guns once more to restore order to a lawless land.

After the Civil War, Union troops catch Belle Shirley (Gene Tierney), a Southern belle, harboring the wanted Confederate guerrilla fighter Sam Starr (Randolph Scott). In retribution, Union major and old friend Thomas Crail (Dana Andrews) must follow orders by burning down their home and arresting Shirley's brother (John Shepperd). Incensed, Shirley springs Starr from jail and joins his rebels. But after marrying Starr, Shirley discovers the outlaw life is not what she thought it would be.
