Hush... Hush, Sweet Charlotte
Forty years ago, on the night they were meant to elope, Charlotte Hollis (Bette Davis) found her lover decapitated during a party, the blood on her dress leading everyone to suspect she was the murderer. Now, in 1964, Charlotte is an old recluse and must fight to keep her home. She enlists the help of her cousin Velma (Olivia de Havilland), who was there at the time of the murder. However, soon after Velma's arrival, Charlotte's mind becomes unstable, and she starts seeing her dead lover's head.
Phone Call From a Stranger
After discovering that his wife has been unfaithful, attorney David Trask (Gary Merrill) decides to fly to Los Angeles. He becomes friendly with three other passengers, each with his own story: salesman Eddie Hoke (Keenan Wynn), actress Binky Gay (Shelley Winters) and Dr. Bob Fortness (Michael Rennie). When the plane crashes and the other three are among the dead, Trask decides to visit the families of each. He helps them cope and also finds out some surprises about his new friends.
A Stolen Life
Reserved Kate Bosworth (Bette Davis) returns home to Cape Cod to work on her painting, and meets and falls in love with young engineer Bill Emerson (Glenn Ford), who is working at the lighthouse for the summer. When Bill meets Kate's twin, Pat, he mistakes her for Kate and is confused by and drawn to her charged sensuality. Heartbroken when Bill marries Pat, Kate buries herself in her work and the coaching of angry artist Karnock (Dane Clark), until an improbable situation arises involving Bill.
Let's Make Love
One of the wealthiest men in the world, Jean-Marc Clement (Yves Montand) is rich in money, but lacking in love. While seeking someone who adores him for his personality rather than his fortune, Clement learns that he is the subject of a satirical theater production. Unrecognized as he visits the play's set, Clement is offered the part as himself by the show's unwitting producers, and he takes the gig to be close to the gorgeous yet down-to-earth actress Amanda Dell (Marilyn Monroe).

When he returns a lost wallet to violent mobster Eddie Roman (Steve Cochran), the man offers to hire him as a chauffeur. Not only is the job a stressful one, but Chuck gets mixed up in a plot to help Eddie's wife, Lorna (Michèle Morgan), run off to Havana to escape her cruel husband's grasp. But when Scott is framed for murder, they must run from both Eddie and the authorities.

Where the Sidewalk Ends
Ashamed that his father lived a life of crime, hard-boiled New York City cop Mark Dixon (Dana Andrews) has a reputation for being too tough on criminals. So when Dixon unintentionally kills a murder suspect during a routine questioning, he hides the fact from the department and tries to pin the killing on his nemesis, notorious gangster Scalise (Gary Merrill). The snag in the cop's plan comes when his boss wrongly accuses the father of Dixon's love interest, Morgan (Gene Tierney), of the murder.

When assigned to investigate the murder of a fellow plainclothes policeman, Los Angeles cop Mike Conovan (Van Johnson) follows his hunches straight to a burlesque dancer named Lili (Gloria DeHaven). After the suspect is gunned down, Conovan's wife (Arlene Dahl) convinces her husband to quit the force -- but can the detective stay away from the case after another fellow officer is murdered?
Berlin Express
During World War II, passengers of various nationalities travel by train from France to Berlin. One of them, Dr. Bernhardt (Paul Lukas), is an influential peacemaker who wants to mend the war-torn continent. When Nazi conspirators determined to keep Bernhardt quiet set off an explosion on the train, it kills a man who turns out to be Bernhardt's decoy. Other passengers (Merle Oberon, Robert Ryan, Robert Coote) seek the doctor for an explanation, but deception is all around.

In post-World War II Tokyo, Eddie Kenner (Robert Stack) is on a U.S. Army special assignment to investigate a murderous clique led by ex-soldier Sandy Dawson (Robert Ryan). Kenner ingratiates himself with Dawson and his inner circle, gaining their trust while starting a relationship with Mariko (Shirley Yamaguchi), the wife of a murdered gang member. But the sinister Dawson suspects there's a traitor among them when the police are tipped off about a planned robbery.

The film is based on Ross Macdonald's 1949 mystery "The Moving Target," featuring private eye Lew Archer.
